BIOGRAPHIE

Daniela de Felice was born in Milano in 1976. She grew up in Italy where she studied drawing and art history. When she was 17 and had her high school diploma, she went to Brussels to study “visual narration” at ERG. She directed her first movie “Coserelle” there. It was selected in several festival as Mostra del Nuovo Cinema di Pesaro and at Inattendus (Lyon) where she meets Matthieu Chatellier. Then she came back to Italy to work in Fabrica Cinema. In 2006 she co-directed “(G)rêve général(e)” with Matthieu Chatellier, her comrade and partner in crime. (this film describes provincial youth who are learning the process of political commitment. This film has been screened for Visions du réel film festival and many others). In 2007, she directed “Libronero”, a painful family portrait crushed by authoritarianism. It’s awarded by the “prix du pavillon” in Pantin during the Côté court film festival. It was also screened during Mostra del Nuovo Cinema di Pesaro and in several others. In 2013, she directed “Casa”, selected by Visions du réel, and won the “Golden Dove for animated Documentary” at Dok Leipzig and a merit at Cinéma du Réel. The movie is screened at many international festivals. In 2019, she reconnected with Matthieu Chatellier for the short “Angèle à la Casse”, screened during Côté court (Pantin). But also at Grenoble and Alès short film festivals. In 2020, she directed “Mille fois recommencer”, where young students got involved in creation and marble sculpting in Carrara. The movie got the Louis Lumière scholarship given by the French Institute, and has been awarded by several SCAM prizes. In 2022, Daniel returned to Visions du réel with Ardenza, screened for its world premiere. Besides her work as a director, Daniel is also an editor, especially for Matthieu Chatellier’s movies.
