Andrea Slovakova

BIOGRAPHIE

Andrea Slováková (*1981) is a Slovak director, film theorist and curator living in the Czech Republic. She is the author of the portrait of Czech mathematician Petr Vopěnka, curator of experimental films at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, one of the curators of the Doc Alliance Films online distribution and the founder of Nová beseda publishing. She has also worked as the Director of the Publishing House of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Director of Publishing Activities Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, editor-in-chief and editor of the DO Documentary Film Proceedings. Within Ji.hlava she has established a Media and Documentary Workshop for Film Science and Journalism Students. She lectures on the history and methods of documentary film, the history of experimental film and film philosophy at Masaryk University in Brno, and also teaches at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. She is a member of the editorial board of the documentary film Dok.revue (published as an irregular supplement to the weekly Respekt), the film magazine Iluminace, an expert of the State Cinematography Fund and a member of the expert committee of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund. He publishes articles on films and interviews in various film and cultural magazines (eg Kino Ikon, Cinepur, A2, Kinečko). In 2018 Větrné mlýny published her debut poetry collection Out. In 2020 she has been elected as a dean of Prague’s Film Academy (FAMU) for next 4 years.
