BIOGRAPHIE

Elif Refig completed her M.F.A. in Film at Columbia University in New York. She is the recipient of the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Grant, won awards from Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Goethe Institute, received project support from the Caucus Foundation, Kodak and the Open Society for her shorts, which have won awards in international film festivals. Her debut feature Ships acquired Turkish Ministry of Culture script development and production fund and was a participant of the Istanbul International Film Festival Meetings on the Bridge Co-Production Workshop and Karlovy Vary International Film Festival Works in Progress. Ships received post production funding from the Global Film Initiative, won FIPRESCI prize in Lecce European Film Festival and Special Jury prize in Malatya Film Festival. US distribution is acquired by IndiePix. Elif”s latest short film Don’t Keep Me Apart is a free adaptation from an interview book referred to as the Turkish vagina monologues. She develops her second feature film Good Luck which participated in Istanbul International Film Festival Meetings on the Bridge Co-Production Workshop in 2019 and has recently received a Production Development Grant from the Turkish Ministry of Culture. Elif has taught screenwriting classes at Columbia University in Nyc - 2007, 2008-, Weisensee University in Berlin-2015, 2017-and Bogazici University in Istanbul -2010, 2015-. She currently teaches writing and film production at Koc University MAVA department in Istanbul and has been working with creative agencies such as Gray, FCB, Tbwa, directing TV commercials for Amnesty International, Glaxo Kline Smith and Casper since 2009.
