Born and raised in GuangZhou-China, immigrated to Montreal-Canada, and now based in Toronto, ZhiMin Hu is a Chinese Canadian independent filmmaker and a Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema (Concordia University) and WIDC (Women In Director’s Chair) alumna. She is fascinated by stories that explore human nature and psychology, promote humanity and enlightenment, and provoke reflection on social aspects. Over the years, she has grown into a blending genre storyteller with a flavour of magic realism and symbolism. She had written, produced, and directed one feature documentary and seven short fictions. Her works have been presented in many film festivals. Ketchup & Soya Sauce was nominated for Best Canadian Feature at Vancouver Asian Film Festival and is broadcast at CBC. Her feature fiction, Under the Red Umbrella, is optioned and in the development, funded by Telefilm. Her second feature film, Never Alive, Already Dead, won the scriptwriting grant from Canada Council for the Arts.
