Milja Viita

BIOGRAPHIE

Milja Viita (1974) is a visual artist and filmmaker; the themes of her works often repeat experiences of nature or natural science observations. Viita’s experimental film Animal Bridge U-3033 (2018) won the Risto Jarva Award at the Tampere Film Festival in 2019, after which it has toured at international film festivals, such as Hot Docs documentary film festival in Toronto. Viita attended the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) artist residency in 2019, where she worked on her 35mm film installation, Bambi. Milja Viita participated on the Independent Film Retreat Film Farm (Mount Forest, Ontario) 2018. Viita graduated from Academy of Fine Arts 2005 (MFA) from Time and Space Department, where she occasionally teaches today. In 2021 she was selected to realise the 6th Contemporary Art Project at the Lönnström Art Museum with the film project Fata Morgana.
