Sofia Aissaoui was born and raised in Rabat, Morocco, she graduated from ESAV film school in 2012 with a Bachelor degree in editing. Sofia started her career producing and directing institutional films and commercials for humanitarian organizations such as the UNDP and the UN Women. This experience inspires Sofia to start developing socially engaged stories that can bring change to communities. She wrote and directed her first short film Wind in 2015, the film paints the portrait of a lonely women having to choose between the faithful memory of her late husband or moving forward with a life she no longer feel useful in. “Wind” was well received and Broadcasted in TV5 world and BBC Arabia. She also co-wrote the social satire series Al Hayat Saida for Medi1 TV. In 2016 Sofia became a Film independent Fellow after her feature Film “ Belly of Hope” is selected in development for the first edition of GMM in Los Angeles. Sofia permanently moves to the US in 2018 and is currently developing a Muslim female driven murder mystery series.
