Susanna Knittel

BIOGRAPHIE

Susanna Knittel’s career as a filmmaker, writer and photo journalist spans 40 years in Europe and in the United States. Upon arriving in America, she directed the first short documentary on the Bohemian Grove. She also produced and directed Freebase, and The Legacy: Tale of Life After Death as well as Homeless while working with Video West. She assisted Robert Frank in "This song for Jack”. In 2015, her film Falling for the Mountain premiered at Wild and Scenic Film Festival. Her essays have been published by Grantmakers in the Arts and Psychological Perspectives, a Journal of Jungian thought. An innovator all her life, she, designed a patented product and introduced children's programs in Buddhist retreat centers. As an educator concerned with the inner life of children, she was part of a pilot project introducing Council in Schools, a program which now benefits thousands of children in the United States and Europe. For the International Peacemakers, she brought Council to Israel, Poland, Italy and other European countries and founded the Center for Council Training Europe. 
Impelled by the culture's rapid loss of connection with nature and the body, she returned to her first medium.  Knittel was raised in Switzerland. She holds a diploma in child psychology and worked at the Jung Clinic in Zürich.  She studied Film at San Francisco College, is a teacher of Somatics (RST, RSE) and divides her time between Santa Monica and Switzerland.
