BIOGRAPHIE

A Croatian screenwriter, director and producer, with a MA degree in Cinema and TV production at the Sorbonne University in Paris. She is a founder of Dobar Film (i.e. a good film), a Croatian production house dedicated to make good films slightly flirting with genres. She directed and produced 3 award winning short films, of which the third film «SPLIT ENDS» is just finished. Her debut works «IN THE NAME OF THE STRAWBERRY, THE CHOCOLATE AND THE HOLY SPIRIT» and «FOLLOWING…» are rewarded and screened in New York, Rome, Los Angeles (in full historic Aero Theatre), Edinburgh, Athens Balkan Beyond Borders, Buffalo, Florida and many others. Her debut made a history on the longest and most important national festival in Pula, being the first short film screened at the opening night in big Roman Arena in front of 5000 spectators (reserved only for feature premieres). The Croatian national television HRT just acquired the film for broadcasting. «SPLIT ENDS» is supported by the Croatian audiovisual centre and Municipality of Koprivnica (region of shooting) and presented at IN THE PALACE international short film festival in Bulgaria, as part of the Filmer Forge program. This co-production between Croatia, Romania and Spain, and is starring one of the biggest female names of Croatian cinema and has a renowned international sales agent attached. Currently she develops her first feature film, dark comedy «MIRROR OF NIGHTINGALES», backed by script development fund, and then later by project development fund both by Croatian audiovisual centre HAVC and Municipality of Koprivnica (region of shooting). It is selected by “Script 2 Film”, an advanced program for project development at MFI – Mediterranean Film Institute in Greece, and presented at European Genre Forum at Tallinn Black Nights FF. Karla teaches multimedia production at the University North as an external expert, she holds a second mandate as the President of the Cultural Counsel in city of Koprivnica, and she is an active participant in developing local cultural scene. Member of DHFR – Croatian Director’s Guild and SPID – Croatian Scriptwriter’s Guild. Previously, she was an assistant producer and a co-production coordinator in a Parisian production house Clandestine films, specialised in first and second features of young directors. Also, for more than 3 years she worked as Head of development and strategy on national television Nova TV in Zagreb.
