BIOGRAPHIE

Born in the mountains near Grenoble, I started making films around the age of 15 — at first for fun, then with growing seriousness. After earning my high school diploma (Economic and Social track), I began studying literature in Hypokhâgne, while continuing to shoot small videos on the side. As this hobby became more consuming, I moved to Nantes to study in the Ciné-Sup preparatory program. That’s where my passion for directing and teamwork truly took shape. I had the chance to meet people I still work with today—friends who inspire and support me. Together, we founded an association called Pagaille, which lets us keep exchanging ideas across our various projects (some of us have moved toward music, illustration, or theatre). After those two years, I applied to the directing program at INSAS in Brussels, where I completed five years of study, graduating in 2018. During that time—both within the school and on my own—I directed several short films, while also taking on other roles: assistant director, camera operator, sometimes even actor. In 2017, I had the chance to go to China with a classmate as part of a student exchange. We had five weeks on-site to find a subject and develop it as a documentary. It remains one of the most meaningful experiences of my life—both personally and cinematically. Today, I continue to explore documentary filmmaking, including a current long-term project on one of the last Jesuit communities living in the heart of Algiers. My films often focus on isolated or marginalized communities—Christians in Algeria, people with electromagnetic hypersensitivity, residents of a retirement home… Within these groups, my stories zoom in on the bond between two individuals, offering them a chance to escape their fate. I approach each project with gentleness and poetry, often anchored in nature. Alongside my personal work, I collaborate with children on institutional videos for Belgian public television (Yapaka), and I regularly direct short films for a retirement home in Brussels, where residents take part in writing and performing. Beyond cinema, I’ve played music since I was young. I enjoy composing—sometimes for my own films, sometimes for others, or even for commercials. My very first films were musicals, and my dream has always been to direct one on a grand scale. David Noblet
