BIOGRAPHIE

Vincenzo Caricari lives in Calabria (Italy) and his work as director of documentaries and short movies is concentrated on social themes. In 2007 he wrote and directed "GGGiovani.Ragazzi di Locri", about very young people protesting against the killing of the vice president of Calabrian Council, Francesco Fortugno, shot by local mafia (awards from Taranto Film Festival and from "Libero Bizzarri" San Benedetto del Tronto). In 2009, "La guerra di Mario" (awards from Lampedusa in Festival and Wirral International Film Festival of Liverpool; running for awards at Via Emilia Doc Fest, Documenta Film Festival, Val di Susa Film Festival) is about the struggle of a father, Mario Congiusta, looking for justice for the shooting of his son Gianluca, a young  man killed by the local mafia. The 2011 is the year of the documentary "Il paese dei Bronzi" (Via Emilia Doc Fest, Docucity Film Fest Milan) made in Riace, a little Calabrian old town famous for its humanitarian projects of protection of refugees come from stranger countries in war. From 2007 he is the artistic director of Locri Movie Theatre. From 2012 he is the artistic director of "Riace in Festival". In 2009 he worked as assistant during the making of Wim Wenders movie "Il volo", based on Riace reality. In 2011 he won the first prize at Calabria Film Festival with the short movie "Il ladro" . In 2014 he made the short film "Stones", selected in the Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival (Short Film Corner) and Tripoli Film Festival in Lebanon. In 2016 he made the short film "Rosa", selected at the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival and at Encounters Short Film Festival in Bristol (London), one of the qualifying festivals for the Oscars. From 2010 he organized in Calabria the casting for "Anime Nere" (“Black souls”), the famous movie of Francesco Munzi winners of nine David of Donatello, during the making of which he worked also as assistant of director. In 2020 for the film “Il buco” by Michelangelo Frammartino (Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival) he created a scene, which was then inserted in post-production in the final version. He cooperated with Al Jazeera, Arte, Ard Das Erste, making reportages.
