Nikolai Paul

BIOGRAPHIE

Nikolai Paul was born in Bern, Switzerland. Following his diagnosis on the autism spectrum (ASD), film quickly became his «special interest.» In 2016, he began writing and producing short film scripts, while also working on commissioned film projects. His passion for cinema is closely tied to his openness and sensitivity toward marginalized communities. This is reflected in his first short narrative film, Sans Papiers, which was nominated for the German Human Rights Film Award in 2018. Paul was later brought on as a script continuity intern for the feature film Mad Heidi, where his «sharp eye for detail» — a trait often associated with ASD — stood out. This led to further opportunities in continuity work for both short and long-form productions, alongside visiting several film courses and apprenticeships in directing and screenwriting. Since 2022, Paul has been working on his second short film, Angela, which is set to premiere at an international film festival in 2025 or 2026. He is currently developing his third short film, for which he has already received early development funding.
