Born in Los Angeles, California in 1984, Gary Gananian studied Communication at Santa Monica College, California (2004). He completed the studies of Social Communication at ESPM - São Paulo, Brazil in 2010. Working in film production companies since 2010 he has been engaged in the production of many short films, feature films and documentaries. In 2011 he began his first feature film, Armenian Rhapsody (2012), a road-movie documentary that portrays Armenia in a musical and poetic manner. In Brazil, it was selected for the 36th São Paulo International Film Festival and was screened in theatres of various cities. Abroad, the film won prizes for best documentary film at the Yerevan Golden Apricot International Film Festival and in Toronto at the Pomegranate International Film Festival. It was also awarded with the British Council Special Prize. One of the highlights of his recent works goes to his debut fiction short film ‘The Creator’ (2020), a short metalinguistic film about a fractured relationship between two artists, which he wrote and directed. The film won 7 awards including Best Film and Outstanding Achievement and was selected in festivals across North America, Europe and Asia. His most recent short film, ‘No Thanks’ (2021), an ethereal contemporary narrative showcasing three friends on an intimate journey in seclusion, was highly reviewed by influential professional creatives such as Kentucker Audley – Founder at No Budge.com, Ivan Kander - Senior Programmer at Short of The Week and Jeff Hamada – Editor in Chief at Booooooom.
