Alisha Mehta is an Indian filmmaker, producer and cinematographer currently living in Los Angeles, California. She holds an MFA in film directing from the California Institute of the Arts where she was a recipient of the Provost Merit Scholarship and was mentored by Juan Pablo Gonzalez. Her short film Losing Light screened at the REDCAT in Los Angeles and the 2019 Tacoma Film Festival. She was a fellow at the 2018 Doc’s Kingdom Seminar and was a part of the screening committee for the 2019 Camden International Film Festival Alisha has a strong interest in curation and her own work varies in form from experimental, essayistic and docu/fiction hybrids. Her recent short Lata investigates invisibility and identity through the exploration of domestic space as the fulcrum of class collision in Mumbai. Prior to CalArts, Alisha has worked closely with Indian filmmakers Konkona Sen Sharma and Nandita Das. She received her BA in Transitional Justice and Human Rights from Grinnell College and spent 4 years studying classical renaissance painting and large format photography at the Aegean Center for the Fine Arts in Paros, Greece.
