Kio Shijiki is an NYC and Tokyo-based film director, screenwriter and is a recent Columbia University Film M.F.A graduate. Kio’s first directorial short film Eureka (2015) has received The Best Indie Drama Award at Top Shorts Film Festival, Jury Prize at Around Films Film Festival in Berlin, and was included in the official selection in Portland Film Festival and The World’s Independent Film Festival in San Francisco. In 2018, Kio produced a short film Secret Lives of Asians at Night, which won the Jury Award at the DGA Student Film Awards, Best Narrative Short at Boston Asian American Film Festival, and Air Canada Short Film Award at Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival. Kio has joined multiple advertising campaigns that support social causes and feminism in Asia such as NIKE JAPAN’s "Just Do It" and Stella Artois Korea’s "Become an Icon" campaigns. Kio’s 2nd short film, “Patisotam”(2020) was premiered at Short Shorts International Film Festival, and had its international premiere in PÖFF Shorts, U.S. premiere at CINEQUEST. Patisotam was also selected for Market Picks at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. Kio wrote and directed “Rumin” as a part of a short film project, DIVOC-12, sponsored by Sony Entertainment Pictures Japan. The movie is currently available for streaming on Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play and many more platforms.
