Born in Afghanistan and raised in Germany, Zamarin attended NYU Tisch School of the Arts as a Dean's fellow. Her work as a cinematographer has been screened at Sundance, Berlinale, SXSW and Tribeca. She recently received an Academy Award for the short documentary "Learning how to Skate in a Warzone" (if you’re a girl) where she worked as an additional cinematographer and interviewer. This experience led her to write and direct her first short film, “Bambirak”, exploring themes of identity, belonging and childhood supported by the Hollywood Int. Press Association Fund. Zamarin’s work is based on subtle and intimate storytelling with a fascination for youth and magical realism. Zamarin is currently shooting the feature documentary “I am Sarah” in Berlin, about a young Syrian swimmer and refugee.
