BIOGRAPHIE

Savvas Stavrou is a British-Cypriot writer/director based in London and an alumni of the Sundance Lab, Berlinale Talents, and BFI Network @ LFF, amongst others. His short films SONG TO THE SIREN, DOROTHEA, INTERLUDE and A JAR OF NUTS have screened and won awards internationally at festivals. His latest short film BUFFER ZONE, a musical about the unlikely connection between two soldiers across enemy lines, was funded by the BFI and premiered at Clermont-Ferrand and BFI Flare Festival in 2023, winning awards for Best Actor, Director and Queer Film at the Oscar-Qualifying Drama Film Festival. As a music video director, his award-winning work was pinned by Promo News amidst the likes of Massive Attack and Florence + the Machine, with his work for The Irrepressibles being picked and presented by NOWNESS. Starting out, Savvas worked as a Development and Production assistant at Focus Features on films such as HANNA, ONE DAY and JANE EYRE, before slowly moving to Michael Winterbottom's company as assistant and production supervisor across 6 feature films. In the commercials world, Savvas has produced commercials for giants such as Apple, Samsung, Nike and Mercedes through Radical Media, RSA Films, Riff Raff Films, La Pac, Stink and Somesuch, as well as music videos for The Rolling Stones, Dua Lipa, Muse, Sam Smith, Royal Blood, Sigrid and Charlotte Gainsbourg. He is currently doing festival rounds with his latest short THE IMPOSSIBLE HOPE OF TRYING and pre-production on WHEN THE MUSIC STOPPED, a short funded by the Greek Film Centre and ERT. He is also developing a slate of three features including LOVESONG TO LAVENDER MENACE (funded by Screen Scotland) and THE ONES LEFT BEHIND, one of 8 projects participating at the Sundance Mediterranean Screenwriters Lab in 2018.
