Mariola Olcina Alvarado is a woman director and screenwriter. She has been carrying out audiovisual projects for non-gubernamental organizations for more than 10 years while developing her career as an environmental journalist and social communicator in parallel. As a filmmaker, she has directed several documentary and animation shorts. Her first animation short,"Body", was a poetic story about the rights of transsexual women. It won third prize in the eleventh edition of the Alicante Provincial Youth Awards "Top Creation 2012" and was nominated in several international festivals. In 2018, she created the animated webserie "Storytelling to feed alternative economic system" to educate boys and girls about the advantages of organic food. In 2019, she directed two short documentaries: "Mares" and "Can you imagine a planet B?", both in festival circuits. Her works always revolve around ecology, ecological economics and ecofeminism. She has published the "Manual of communication for organized citizenship" (Libros en Acción, 2017), has been a speaker at TEDxAlcoi with her talk "Ecofeminist communication: communicating the invisible" and is a member of the editorial board of various communication media such as ElSalto, the Magazine Soberania Alimentaria, and the blog Ultima Llamada of Eldiario.es. Currently, she coordinates audiovisual communication for the FUHEM Foundation and is one of the 15 residents of Coofilm, a co-creation program for women filmmakers.
