Leon Barbero

BIOGRAPHIE

Leon Barbero, born in Matão - a small town in the São Paulo countryside - is an emerging film director and screenwriter and a proud member of the Projeto Paradiso talent network, an initiative that supports the growth and visibility of Brazilian filmmakers globally. His horror feature film project, "Genesis," was selected for the Torino Film Lab Madrid in 2021 and established him as a semi-finalist for FRAPA 2020, the largest screenplay contest in Latin America. His directorial debut was the 2020 short film "Babelon," selected by the Curta Cinema Festival and Mostra Tiradentes - two of Brazil's most esteemed film festivals. His second short horror film, "Through the Uncanny Valley," is set to release in 2023. Before embarking on his journey in fiction cinema, Leon co-founded a video production company dedicated to advertising and institutional content for TV and the Internet, where he took on the roles of Director, Producer, and Editor. His directorial portfolio also includes leading the multicam recordings of operas and ballets at the Municipal Theater of São Paulo and concerts at the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra. As a screenwriter, Leon has been a finalist for the ROTA screenplay contest on four different occasions with the projects "God Doesn't Give Wings to Snakes" (currently in pre-production) and "Crimson King" in 2019, "Delay" in 2021, and "Pedro" in 2022."
