TOPPING OUT is actress Kerry Fox's first short film as director, to support a feature film she has in development with the New Zealand Film Commission that will be her directorial debut. Kerry is an internationally recognised and awarded actress. Her most recent films are LITTLE JOE by Jessica Hausner (2019 Cannes Official Competition), RARE BEASTS by Billie Piper (2019 Venice and London Film Festivals) and Wayne Blair's TOP END WEDDING (2019 Sundance Film Festival). Kerry's career began playing the lead, as Janet Frame, in Jane Campion's AN ANGEL AT MY TABLE (Venice Film Festival Special Jury Prize). The pair collaborated again on Cannes Palme d'Or nominated BRIGHT STAR. She worked with Danny Boyle on SHALLOW GRAVE and the earlier BBC TV series, MR WROE’S VIRGINS. For Jocelyn Moorhouse, Kerry acted in both THE DRESSMAKER and more recently in the acclaimed Australian TV series WANTED. Other career highlights include winning the SILVER BEAR for acting at The Berlinale for Patrice Chéreau’s INTIMACY, the Cannes inclusion of Michael Winterbottom’s WELCOME TO SARAJEVO, as well as Gillian Armstrong’s THE LAST DAYS OF CHEZ NOUS. Kerry’s other collaborations include Oscar-winner Simon Beaufoy’s directorial debut THE DARKEST LIGHT, Australian theatre master Neil Armfield’s biographical adaptation HOLDING THE MAN, with Guy Pierce and Irish enfant terrible Terry McMahon’s award winning PATRICK’S DAY. Kerry also has many television highlights in her career in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Britain, as well as theatre credits which include FACE TO FACE adapted by Andrew Upton for the Sydney Theatre Company. She appeared with Sienna Miller in CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF in London’s West End. Kerry is also a drama teacher and focuses on working with writer/directors on their approach with actors in workshops for THINK-SHOOT-DISTRIBUTE, THE BERLINALE, THE BINGER INSTITUTE and BELLROCK.
