As a Writer/Director, Michelle brings her vast experience in the film and television industry as an Emmy-nominated actress, working alongside respected directors such as Jane Campion, Jodie Foster and Steven Soderbergh. Culturally agile with her Malaysian-Chinese heritage and international experience, New Zealand born Michelle understands the nuance of culture and story across platforms and countries. Her desire to see more opportunities for representation of diverse characters and stories on screen has led her to write, direct and produce content. She has conjured up music videos, written a theatre play Chop/Stick that enjoyed sellout seasons in Auckland and Wellington, Michelle’s project NAI/Milk was shortlisted for a Screencraft writing award and is currently submitting to festivals. Michelle has participated in the Sundance Directors Lab. She produced indie feature FOR IZZY which found strong support in the LGBTQ+ and Asian diaspora festivals across USA, Korea, Germany and China. It won Audience Choice Award at Frameline, Ashland Independent and the Asian American Film Festival and took the Grand Jury Prize at the Los Angeles Asian American Pasific film festival. Michelle loves telling emotive outisder stories that subvert expectations. Her next project is a NZ Film Commission supported female collective feature Kainga.
