Ayla Çekin Satijn (1995) was born in Maasmechelen, Belgium, and graduated as an actress and theatre maker from acting school in 2017. As a Turkish queer woman, she feels a great responsibility for representation of progressive roles for women. In 2022, she made her debut as a director with her short film 'Beş', which she wrote herself, at the Netherlands Film Festival. She was awarded the Audience Award at the Go Short International Film Festival. An important goal as a director is to bring positive representation to the audience and thus set an example for people who feel underrepresented. To portray a more nuanced image of LGBTQ+ characters and people from bicultural backgrounds. In 2023, she started working on her new script 'Kuzu' which eventually became 'Yildiz'.
