BIOGRAPHIE

Terry Dawson is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker and member of both the Writers Guild and the Motion Picture Editors Guild. Most recently Terry was Film Independent’s Project Involve 2021 Writer/Director fellow where he developed and filmed his narrative short The Mason Ring. Terry made his directorial debut in 2016 with an award-winning web series comedy he created 'A Whole New Irving', which landed in development at HBO. Prior to this transition into the scripted space, Terry worked in documentary films as an Editor and Producer on titles including 'Kiss The Ground' (Netflix,) 'The Lost City Of The Monkey God' (Discovery+,) and 'The Hadza; Last Of The First' (Journeyman Films,) focusing on subjects ranging from environmental awareness to the challenges of marginalized ethnics groups in Africa and Brazil. Although his roots are in documentaries, Terry’s deep love for narrative content spurred his recent endeavors into the scripted world, and he has plans to write and direct both film and television that tell stories of people of color that represent them in their full dimensionality and scope while expanding consciousness on issues of global, environmental, and social relevance. A Washington, DC native, Dawson received a BA in Film from Hofstra University and did graduate work at Howard University.
