Namaste. Greetings from India. I am a Mumbai based novelist who has written and directed her debut short film – Bena. It is a story of a house-help, who is thrown out of her job for reasons beyond her control. It is based on a short story called The Lie, written by me for my upcoming book of shorts called Misfits of Majestic Colony. I have worked in various capacities in Mumbai’s film and television industry for 22 years. My career started as a reporter (entertainment) on TV-18’s The Amul India Show which was telecast on Star Plus every Sunday. Apart from this I have contributed to CNBC’s corporate travel show Way to Go. Then moved to NDTV, as a reporter on dailies like Good Morning India, Bollywood News as well as Limelight. Next, produced shows for MTV like MTV Loveline and MTV Chito Chat where I honed my skill for crafting humour. I have published 3 novels to my credit. The success of Can’t Die for Size Zero, (Humour) (Rupa & Co.), got me a regular column with Marie Claire India called Big Girl in a Skinny World. It ran for more than a year with many letters from readers which were printed on editions of the Magazine. The novel was featured on BooksOnTheSubwayNewYork. My second novel He Loves Me Not (Rom-Com) (Penguin Random House India) was highly praised by media critics for its humour and characterisations within the Parsee community without stereotyping them. It is currently under perusal for screen adaptation with various production houses. Prime Time Crime (drama/thriller) (Vishwakarma Publication) my latest novel has been a bestseller and also got a large amount of press attention (The Hindu, Quint, Mid-Day, DNA) for its story telling. It has been picked by a prestigious talent agency for screen representation. Rock-solid research being the backbone of the novel, I was also chosen to do research for Ashim Ahluwalia’s Daddy – a biopic on Mumbai gangster Arun Gawli. I have co-written indie feature film My Birthday Song currently streaming on Netflix. In the past I have worked with Mr. Vikram Bhatt (script) on Shaapit.
