BIOGRAPHIE

Ariadna Sionta is a young greek-argentinian film director and screenwriter. She was born in 1989 in the City of Buenos Aires to a Greek family. There she spent most of her early childhood in a cinema that belonged to her father. Afterwards, she spent her childhood and adolescence travelling between the capital of Buenos Aires and the countryside, where she attended prestigious St George’s British boarding school. She also studied Theatre and Musical Comedy in the prestigious academy of Julio Bocca, with mentors like Roxana Berco and Ricky Pashkus, with whom she did several performances, performing in numerous productions before landing the lead role in the remake of “The Sound of Music”. After high school graduation, she was accepted in the University of London and moved to England where she studied English Literature and Creative writing. Some years later, she moved back to Buenos Aires after getting a scholarship from CIEVYC University (Centro de Investigación de Video y Cine), where she studied film and screenwriting. She studied a Master in Film directing in ESRA Paris (École Superieur de Réalisation Audiovisuelle). She also did actors directing courses with Maria Figueras and Julian Howard. In 2012 and 2013, she worked in the direction department of "Turizia SA" in various national and international music videos and TV programs, creating contents for UNICEF and “Canal Encuentro”, among others. During these years, she worked next to Spanish filmmaker Rafael Choclán, exerting the role of assistant director and with famous Argentinian director Eduardo Pinto, from whom she found inspiration for her directing style. In 2013, she won her first National prize, when she was chosen by Juan Jose Campanella, Lucrecia Martel, Juan Pablo Gugliotta and David Blaustein as the winner of INCAA’s short film competition "Un barrio de Película" in the categories of best screenplay and best short-film, for her widely acclaimed “Por temor a Dios” (Fear of God). In 2015, her short film “ESC” won “Best Production design” and “Best screenplay” in the 48 HFP in Buenos Aires. It was premiered internationally in Cannes Short film corner and selected for several film festivals around the world. Since 2015, she works alongside French director David Duponchel in the programing and coordination of the international film festival “A L’Est du Nouveau” in Rouen, France and Buenos Aires, Argentina. During these years, she was deeply influenced by the metaphorical, social and critical Eastern European Cinema. She also did advertisings, spots for political campaigns and collaborations with the scriptwriting area of broadcasters like “Endemol Argentina” as a freelancer. Currently, she is finishing the post-production of her much-awaited documentary "Strings of the Universe, Life and Work of Horacio Lavandera", produced by Groncho Estudio and Guarango Films and working in the development of a very ambitious true story, an 1800’s epic drama called "Fuegia", produced by Leyenda Films. Ariadna is fluent in Spanish, English, Greek, Italian and French and often refers to herself as a nomad since she spends much of her free time travelling to different countries and learning from different cultures. She is mostly interested in socially relevant engaging stories that seek to bring us awareness and unite us as a society.
