Philippine Tatler hailed her as one of the “Must-Know Filipino Talents in The Arts and Culture Scene in 2021”. Artist-healer Ea Torrado create contemporary pieces that engage both lyrically and viscerally with the politics of identity, society, sexuality, collective rage, grief, spirituality and healing. Her creations manifest in performance rituals, dance theatre, movement gatherings, site-specific work, installation and film. Ea started producing and directing her own films in 2012: The Gray Area, a solo for Rhosam Prudenciado Jr., Wallflower with dancer Jan Parangat a film tribute to World Anti-Suicide Day, and Embracing (I’m not Scared) with dance artist Clarissa Mijares. She also directed and performed Sisa, a dance film commissioned by The Lopez Museum and Library for the exhibit “Complicated” in 2014. And In 2017, UP Center for Women and Gender Studies asked her to make a film, co-directed with Brandon Relucio, it was called Silenced. And recently, she co-created a short film with Chino Neri and sound designer Neil Belen, entitled Tethering, in 2020. As a founder and contemporary dancer-choreographer of Philippine-based Daloy Dance Company, Ea was awarded the Alvin Erasga Tolentino Koreograpiya Award (2014), the Remedios De Oteyza Award for Choreography (2016) and Asian Cultural Council Grant (2017) for her works with Daloy. Her work has been supported by various local and international institutions such as The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (Philippines), Goethe Institut-Manila, Japan Foundation, Pineapple Lab, Fringe Manila Festival, The Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Neo Filipino, Myra Beltran’s Dance Forum, Steps Dance Project, WIFI Body Festival, Contemporary Dance Network Manila and Search Mindscape Foundation.
