Jo-Yu Hsu graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London, with a Master's degree in Promotional Media: PR, Advertising & Marketing. Her thesis focused on political art theory, and she also took elective courses in art history, film narration, and political communication. She specializes in theater directing, curation, and transdisciplinary art creation, including poetry, sound installations, experimental documentaries, and exhibitions. Additionally, she is a practitioner and guide in the field of hypnosis, holding an international certification as a Certified Hypnotherapist from the NGH (National Guild of Hypnotists) in the United States, as well as the qualification of a Hypnosis Coach from the De School of Hypnosis in Taiwan. In the realm of shamanic studies, she has received support from the Taiwanese Ministry of Culture to conduct field research and artistic creation in locations such as Mexico and Peru, establishing long-term collaborations with local indigenous communities. She has been recognized by the cultural authorities in those regions, consistently delving into this topic in her creative work. Her focus lies in exploring the cultural contexts of pan-spiritual beliefs, mythology, divination, shamanism, rituals, and magic, and she holds a deep interest and respect for these subjects. With significant experience in consciousness transformation, autonomous imagination, and inner expansion, her artistic creations are deeply rooted in the exploration of the primordial spiritual world. Emphasizing sensory impact and subconscious expansion, her past works strongly embody the core themes of myth translation, consciousness transformation, and spiritual exploration, utilizing diverse media. As one of the few distinctive Taiwanese female artists, she has made a unique mark. Currently, she is dedicated to theater creation and transdisciplinary art. She has presented a series of works including theater productions such as "A Road Not Taken" (2021) and "Priceless" (2021), NFT artwork "CHAMBER OF PSYCHE" (2022), "MUSES DANCE" (2022), experimental documentary "Caves and Streams at Noon" (2022), sound installation "We Once Lived in Water" (2022), poetry works such as "Leopard Guiding the Way" (2023), "The Celebration Procession with Harpy Eagles" (2023), "Raven and the Fossil of Dreams" (2023), curated work "Travel Back 30 Years on Stage: Into the Past" at the 2021 Taiwan International Festival of Arts, and "Midnight Journey - Sacred, Dangerous, Powerful, Pure" (2023). In terms of international curation, she served as the overall coordinator for "Water, Earth - Source of Life" in Mexico City (2022) and has worked as a production manager for various international and domestic performing arts productions at the National Theater & Concert Hall in Taiwan. In the field of theater, she previously served as the production stage manager for Punchdrunk's avant-garde immersive team's production of "Sleep No More" in Shanghai, leading a team of a hundred people and managing over a hundred performances. She also held the position of Head of Production Management in the Technical Department at the National Theater & Concert Hall in Taiwan for six years, becoming the youngest executive in the institution's history. In this role, she managed and guided production managers and stage managers, participating in numerous international and domestic performing arts productions. She has been invited to give lectures on immersive theater production practices and immersive directing workshops at Taipei National University of the Arts and Xing Wu University of Science and Technology, making her one of the few female directors in Taiwan with a background in production management.
