Akanchha Karki

BIOGRAPHIE

Akanchha Karki is a theatre, film director/actor who is also embarking into the world of filmmaking. She runs Katha Ghera, a Kathmandu based theatre collective. She has directed several acclaimed plays like The Vagina Monologues, Private is Political, Animal Farm. She is a recipient of British Council Gender Film Grant through which she has directed her debut short film 'Sanai'. In 2021 she attended a script writing workshop organized by Nepali Female Filmmakers. In 2022 she participated in Gograha Film Residency, where she first found motivation to write a feature which is currently in development. Her work is Mental Health informed, Gender sensitive and Social Justice oriented. She believes in questioning problematic structures, unlearning internalized prejudices and facilitating difficult conversations that allow room for empathy and healing. Her work is often fueled by outrage or an unsettlement, and she hopes to find answers through the process of creating.
