BIOGRAPHIE

MAYRO ROMERO Ecuador, 1995 In 2019 my short documentary "La luna me sigue" was part of the official selection of festivals such as; First-Time Filmmarker sessions / Lift-off Global Network-London, Sessions / Lift-off Global Network-London, EDOC19 International Documentary Film Festival, Atuk Ecuadorian Film Festival, FECI Bogota International Independent Film Fair of Bogota, FLACQ Latin American Film Festival Cine de Quito, Competitive New Industry Oxaca FilmFest, El Ojo del Cóndor Kunturñawi Film Festival, CODEC International Festival of Experimental Film and Video and obtained an Honorable Mention at the LA Underground Film Forum 2019-Los Angeles. My work focuses on the possibilities of reverie as queer autoethnographic writing. In that space, that of reverie, trans childhood and imagination dialogue with memory without material; whose only writing is trauma and whose support is the body, turning it into a memory technology. As a trans person whose childhood was spent in the peripheries, I anchor myself to that child that I was, to talk about violence and imagination from a personal perspective. My studies are in cinema with a mention in Direction and Script at the University of the Arts of Ecuador. In 2022, I was part of the selection of the 17th Talents Buenos Aires / The Year of Discovery, also of the research seminar on Memory Technologies: Archive, writing and attestation organized by the MUAC Campus expanded in Mexico. I am currently distributing my latest short documentary on the traces of war in queer childhoods at festivals. Winning research project of competitive funds, Andean Region 2021 and Project selected in the RED EDOC / MERCADO LAB consultancies, Latin America 2021.
