Joanna Joy is a director, writer, producer with a passion for interdisciplinary and intersectional storytelling. In 2023 Joanna was selected to participate in the MIFF Accelerator lab, as well as the AiF Untapped Program. Joanna spent 2022 working with Bus Stop Films and Barada and Darumbal Indigenous Councils on the creation of two short films. Premiering at FlickerFest Film Festival, Generations of Men was funded by the Screen Queensland RiDE shorts initiative and serves as a proof of concept for a larger series in development. This film was shot under the consultation of Wayne Blair and featured the local actors and language of Barada and Darumbal Country. Bus Stop Films is a not for profit that teaches students living with disability to make high quality films. As a tutor for Bus Stop Films, Joanna wrote and directed the fantasy/ action/ horror short BAND(she) and Queer/Wrestling/Musical Fighting Feelings. Prior to this Joanna has been a recipient of the Creative Young Leaders Fellowship and returned from the the LungA School in Iceland to see her work screened at Sydney’s For Film’s Sake Festival, the Melbourne Women in Film Festival and ATOM Awards and toured both Sydney Fringe and Newcastle’s TiNA festival. https://www.joannajoyprojects.com.au/
