BIOGRAPHIE

Amer Albarzawi was born in 1987 in Damascus, Syria. He was a former member of the National Syrian Gymnastics team who transitioned to dance and performance. Between 2005 and 2011, he directed and self-produced theatre plays and performances while participating in many Arabic and international festivals. Later, he specialised in Capoeira, consulted for the Bidna Capoeira association, and directed two short films. In 2015, he directed "Fade to Black" and in 2016, he directed "Yaman" with Majooneh, a group of young Syrian artists that he founded. Both films shed light on the reality of many Syrians during the past decade using stop motion and pixelation. They both participated in film festivals across the world. Amer arrived in France for an eight-month residency with Programme Nora in 2017, then joined the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) as a member of the Programme d’Étudiant Invité. He is currently a student at Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains, where he directs films related to his experience of exile, alienation, and memory loss.
