After completing her audiovisual education, Dirkje Duwel (Haarlem, 2001) began studying Directing fiction at the Nederlandse filmacademie. During the first three years, she focused on stepping outside her comfort zone. This led her to create a genre-driven film, a VFX driven film and she delved into the dramaturgy of slice-of-life narratives with the film "Oude Honden Blaffen". For her graduation project, she brought together all the knowledge she had gained in previous years to create the film "CALF". This film thematically and visually aligns with the type of films Dirkje aspires to make in the future. Her fascination lies in character-driven narratives that explore the ongoing learning process of loving. She is drawn to films where all characters have the best intentions, but these intentions sometimes conflict with the needs of others. She is interested in exploring how characters can still come together and how they do so. In addition to directing, Dirkje has explored other roles within the film industry. Over the past years, she has worked as an assistant director, 1st AD and contributed to numerous projects as a camera assistant. She intends to continue exploring her passion for the camera department alongside directing.
