Aarushi Chowdhury

BIOGRAPHIE

Aarushi Chowdhury is a Writer & Director fascinated by chaos in the mundane and even more by the people who create it. She was born in India and partly raised in a household of sixty family members living under one roof so naturally, Aarushi loves uniquely peculiar characters! Her journey into the world of film began quite unexpectedly. While studying commerce and law at Monash University, an opportunity to AD a short film drew her into the vibrant world of film and television. Aarushi got her first commercial gig as an Art Assistant; she had never been more excited to command hook fake band posters to a fake wall for a fake musician. She was hooked, literally! Aarushi soon discovered that she wanted to write and direct because she had stories to tell and there is only so much patience one has for adhesives. With a determination to earn her stripes first, she embraced almost every role on set, including casting for AppleTv, ACing for Vogue, lighting for indie features, production coordinating for SBS and eventually writing research for Tony Ayres and NBCUniversal. Finally Aarushi did what most lawyers do; she started a much more financially stable career in the arts. She now freelances as a writer and director across film, television, commercials, music videos and content. Aarushi believes that stories are the best way to connect with consumers so she strives to create commercials that have a narrative heart. She values honesty and authenticity in her work, which results in a naturalistic approach to performances and an appreciation for raw storytelling. Aarushi often gravitates toward a darkly comedic tone, knowing that a bitter pill is a little easier to swallow with a spoonful of sugar. Her debut film, Clown, premiered at SXSW in Sydney and garnered a nomination at MIFF in Victoria. Aarushi has recently been presented the jury’s ‘One to Watch’ award by a panel comprising Leah Purcell, Sophie Wilde, Kyas Hepworth, and Bella Heathcote. She is also nominated for the Young Australian Filmmaker Award at the Byron Bay International Film Festival. Having spent her early years of life as an only child, Aarushi has a strong yearning for collaboration and shared experiences. She has recently worked with the creative team at M&Ms and married the worlds of music and narrative in her new Ad campaign, featuring ‘Telenova’. As she prepares for pre-production on a proof-of-concept funded by Creative Australia, with additional development support from AFTRS, ScreenVic, and Screen Australia’s ‘Talent Camp’ program, she is eager to explore projects that seamlessly blend commercial appeal with heartfelt storytelling. With a passion for creating engaging narratives that resonate, Aarushi is excited about projects that not only promote but also connect, offering a deeper glimpse into the peaks and troughs that shape who we are.
