Kassio Pires

BIOGRAPHIE

Kassio Pires has a degree in Cinema and Audiovisual from the State University of Goiás, Brazil. He has dedicated himself to developing authorial projects that mainly explore the identities and experiences of the Brazilian countryside. His first short film The River's Bend is currently being distributed. He is currently in pre-production on his second short, Savannah Circus, which tells the story of two sisters who want to escape from a conservative environment in the early 1990s, and is developing the feature film Fresh Water, an LGBT romance between a country singer and his producer, who has started a career in clinics and project laboratories and has artistic consultant from Marcelo Caetano. Kassio Pires' work is closely linked to the Cerrado (Brazilian Savannah) biome and its representation on screen, placing the biome as an active character in his stories, bringing up important discussions related to the exploitation of the Cerrado (Brazilian Savannah) and the environment as a memory and symbol of belonging - synonyms of solastalgia. There is also a concern to film anonymous characters and bodies from the countryside of Brazil in their daily lives, establishing a connection between their environments and their identities, which have always been underrepresented in Brazilian audiovisuals. Brazilian country music is also strongly present in his work, which brings influences and contributions from all over Latin America to the construction of the identities of the Brazilian countryside.
