Matheo Fernandes is a Brazilian new-wave Film Director. His debut fiction short film, ‘Anthropical,’ came to life after an impactful experience shooting a photojournalist documentary in the protagonist's village, located in an unknown region of Brazil between the states of São Paulo and Paraná. This unique setting provided him with invaluable insights into the local culture and socio-political landscape, which he masterfully weaves into his narratives. Matheo is dedicated to portraying Brazilian society authentically and organically, consciously steering away from exploitation and clichés prevalent in mainstream media. He challenges stereotypes and strives to present the rich diversity of Brazilian stories and genres through his work. In addition to his film projects, Matheo is actively engaged with organizations focused on social and environmental issues, advocating for climate justice and equitable representation in the arts.
