Martin Z earned his bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts from the New York Institute of Technology before pursuing an MFA in Film at the San Francisco Art Institute, studying experimental cinema under multimedia pioneer Lynn Hershman Leeson. His student films received numerous accolades, including awards from IndieFEST, PAH-FEST, and the Special Jury Prize at the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Short Film Competition. After returning to China, he joined Factory Gate Films as a signed director. The School Uniform marks his debut as both director and screenwriter after graduation, while his first feature film, Cold-Blooded Animals, is currently in development.
