SYNOPSIS

Saint Anthony, the Theban hermit of the third century, had become somewhat a star among saints because of the attribution of healing powers given to his relics. His legend was a favorite subject among painters who found powerful images in his temptations that expressed sensuality, the precariousness of human existence and the quest for God.
