In the beginning of the 19th century, Malunguinho led the Catucá quilombo in the surroundings of Recife. He was murdered in 1835, however up to today he’s still worshipped in the indigenous religion called Jurema Sagrada, in which heritage, lies the African influences of the northeast of Brazil.
