SYNOPSIS
China's 1990s reform of state-owned enterprises led to a surge in China's economic growth, but it came with the cost of sacrificing a whole generation. In 2021, 20 years after the SOE mass layoff, a group of Chinese international students came back to Beijing, China. Here, they were going to stage an original play, “The Wasted”, about SOE laid-off workers in Northeast China in the last century.
