SYNOPSIS

Between the Cañada and the Mixteca, in the north of the state of Oaxaca, is located the Ixcateco people whose language, Xjuani, has slowly gone dormant in the memory of its people. Only a few remember a few phrases or words and less than 10 people preserve Xjuani as their mother tongue. It is through the last speakers that the history of their people and their language is woven.
