SYNOPSIS

After WWII, the Ma family in Taiwan finally enjoyed a peaceful life. However, fate proved merciless when both elderly parents were afflicted by tuberculosis. In desperation, the eldest son, Sheng, secretly sold the family land just to buy morphine. On the day he decided to sell his newborn child for money, he discovered that his parents had ended their own lives in an attempt to save the family.
