SYNOPSIS
Distorted Costa Rican TV advertisements from the late 20th century are juxtaposed with the voiceover of James A. FitzPatrick narrating his 1947 “Calling on Costa Rica” travelogue. Through a visual and conceptual deconstruction of these cultural artifacts, the film reflects on the impact of historical and contemporary power dynamics on the nation’s self-representation and identity.
