SYNOPSIS

In the state of Uttarakhand, India, the loud calls of the Indian Cuckoo, a migratory bird, are heard as "kafal pako," meaning "bayberry is ripe." According to legend, a mother and daughter became birds after quarreling over the kafal fruit. When the fruit ripens, the mother calls "kafal pako," and the daughter replies, "Mein ni chako," meaning "I haven't tasted them”. In a small village of Uttarakhand, a young boy's heartwarming quest to call the bird by feeding them kafals (bayberries) intertwines with the poignant story of an old lady sending letters to her relative in a distant town. 'Bayberries Ripen in the Monsoon' blends the timeless folklore of Uttarakhand, with the region's contemporary realities.
