SYNOPSIS

In 1863, hairdresser Franziska Angerer (Fanny) creates stunning hairstyles for actresses at Vienna’s Hofburgtheater. Empress Elisabeth of Austria discovers her talent when she notices Fanny’s latest creation in a photograph of the renowned actress Charlotte Wolter. To Fanny’s surprise, she is invited to become the personal hairdresser to the Empress. At the formal Viennese court, Fanny struggles to adapt to the strict etiquette and faces challenges from the highborn ladies. Elisabeth’s demanding schedule and high standards for the royal hair ritual add to the pressure. But when Fanny challenges the Empress during a late-night hair-session, their relationship shifts. Despite criticism from the aristocracy due to Fanny’s unconventional background, the “Sisi-hairdo” gained popularity among aristocratic women, establishing Fanny as a trendsetter. This marks the beginning of a special relationship between Fanny and Empress Sisi as they use their iconic hairdo as a weapon to challenge the conservative norms of their time.
