The free woman - transformed by the collective imagination, from one continent to another, into a Witch or a Mermaid - is still perceived by many societies as dangerous. A filmmaker travels to Mexico's Veracruz region in search of the sung legend of La Petenera, a femme fatale who is said to have turned into a mermaid for defying the law and bathing on Good Friday. There, she meets a group of musicians who reappropriate the Petenera song (part of the Jarocho Fandango repertoire), composing new lyrics. What if this song had the power to liberate women?
