SYNOPSIS

In this contemporary reimagining of Schubert's *Erlkönig*, the chilling story is brought into the modern world, where the figure of the Erlking represents predatory Catholic priests. The narrative unfolds as a father desperately tries to protect his son from the unseen yet omnipresent threat that looms over them. As in the original ballad, the child senses danger, but his cries are dismissed until it is too late. This adaptation explores the insidious manipulation, denial, and abuse of power within religious institutions, turning the mythical Erlking into a symbol of real-world horrors that plague vulnerable children today. Through stark imagery and a haunting score, this film delves into themes of innocence lost, betrayal, and the failure of authority to shield those most in need of protection.
