SYNOPSIS

When military mobilization began in Russia, Doulan left Yakutia for Georgia. He is trying to rebuild his new life. Being disconnected from his homeland, language, and culture, he faces life's toughest trials. A film about incredible love and boundless longing for home. In Batumi, where little reminds him of Yakutia, Duolan tries to see his homeland in the local landscape, in the people, in signs, and even in animals. Sometimes, he plays Yakutian songs and sings along, to at least mentally transport himself back to his native lands. In these songs, we see his reflection, longing for home, and love for his native Yakutia, which remains far away. The authorities in Moscow are turning the Republic of Sakha into a resource colony, destroying nature and causing environmental catastrophes. Colonial policies are eroding the identity of the people, prohibiting freedom of speech and art that addresses ethical and interethnic issues. Youth are forced to leave in search of freedom, being deprived not only of land but also of a future. The Sakha people are losing their culture, nature, and hope for self-determination. I was born in Yakutia and my native language is Sakha. I too left my native Yakutia, and in this film, I see my own personal story. I'm interested in how a person, being disconnected from their land, language, and culture, will invent a new life for themselves. Will they succeed in arranging their life? Are they honest with themselves when they say they feel more freedom? These questions trouble me as well, and I seek answers in my characters. We've all started a new life, and war has proven to be a terribly driving force for us.
