SYNOPSIS

Former leader of a traditional music group, my maternal uncle Lada lives in Mayotte where he cultivates his field, raises his goats and fishes to feed his family. To my great regret, this outstanding percussionist has given up the ngoma, an instrument of secular rhythms, since his return from Mecca. I visit him frequently in the hope that he will reconsider his decision and play the ngoma one last time, for me.
