SYNOPSIS

Where déjà vu refers to something new feeling familiar, jamais vu is the sensation of something mundane feeling suddenly unfamiliar. For me, this derealisation - which impacts my relationship to myself, my space, and those around me - is the first clue that a vestibular migraine attack is coming. In this chapter, you see your own body as an avatar – one that moves when you do, yet feels mysteriously disconnected. You are guided to complete a series of everyday tasks that would normally be performed unconsciously: reach out and grab a coffee mug, open up your book to the marked page. The catch: your visual perception is inverted, making basic movements suddenly uncertain and unsettled. The more time passes, the more your perception becomes delayed and unreliable. And while you know that that beyond the screen is a world that is stable and solid… you must first confront the unsettling reality that the habitual and familiar can easily become something different.
