SYNOPSIS

Maya, a 40-something mom of two young kids tries to rebuild her life. One problem: Her ex has taken all the family room furniture, leaving a big empty space in the middle of their home. Amid the emptiness, Maya attempts to fill the void one distraction at a time. Based on the director Hersh Ellis' mother Mindi Ellis' autobiographical essay of the same name, "The Empty Room" is a slow burn meditation on grief, avoidance and and the long, winding pathway to surrender.
