SYNOPSIS

The tree looks at the man. The man stretches out his arms. The tree emits sounds, sounds that become syllables, and the syllables words, words that emerge from its trunk, its branches, its roots, and the earth. A palaver begins between the tree and the man, about the flight of birds, the song of ducks, the whistle of the swan, the squeal of the nutria. Attracted by the tranquil presence of this venerable being, the man wraps his arms around its trunk. He smells odors he'd never experienced before, and then a few lines from Dante's Divine Comedy emerge to mind. « If you break a branch from one of these trees, your thoughts will also be shattered. Then, stretching out my hand a little, I plucked a little twig from a thick bush, and the trunk cried, Why are you mutilating me? Then turned all black with blood, he cried out again, Why are you breaking me? Do you have no feeling of pity? We are men, now we are bushes. Your hand should be morepious, if we were souls of serpents. » Shot in Borély park, Marseille, February 2020.
